Dr. Judith Peck, Professor Emeritus at Ramapo College of New Jersey, conceived the program Art & Interaction in which students are trained to conduct art workshops in jails and other facilities, such as for abused children, family shelters, urban housing projects, veterans centers, nursing homes and psychiatric hospitals. Sharing the combined magic of art and conversation, students do more than helping others. They come to understand some of society’s major problems, such as crime, child and spousal abuse, poverty, war, aging and mental illness.
